On Monday, at an event held by Alabama prison's commissioner Kim T. Thomas, it was announced that Giles has completed a rigorous internship with the Alabama Department of Corrections (DOC), which makes him the first student to ever complete the rigorous 12-week internship program with the DOC, which included attending and graduating from the DOC Academy.

Giles, a criminal justice major at ASU, was honored as the first student to complete the program, which was launched in 2009 as part of a partnership between ASU and the DOC.
