MONTGOMERY— A $63,272 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley is supporting a manufacturer’s plans to create 25 new jobs in the next year at a former airfield in Selma. The company hopes to employ 80 workers eventually.
The Community Development Block Grant will assist Eovations LLC to establish a manufacturing plant at Craig Industrial Park. The Michigan-based company will produce building materials at a facility previously used by the Louisiana-Pacific Corporation. The industrial park is situated on property that once served as Craig Air Force Base.
“By locating in Dallas County, Eovations will have the benefit of supportive local officials and an energetic workforce that will help them thrive,” Bentley said. “I am always pleased when companies decide to locate in our state and employ Alabamians, and I am especially delighted to support this project.”
CDBG funding will assist the county to improve a 750,000-gallon elevated water tank in order to adequately meet fire protection needs for Eovations. Local funding of $15,818 will assist in the water tank project.
Bentley awarded the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, workforce development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
Bentley notified Probate Judge Kim Ballard, who chairs the Dallas County Commission, that funding had been approved.
