Body found in water near Edmund Pettus Bridge | News
SELMA, AL (WSFA) - Men fishing near Selma's historic Edmund Pettus Bridge Monday discovered a body in the water, according to police. The body was pulled from the water shortly after 11:00am.
Authorities say the body had an identification on it, but that information is not being released at this time. Authorities say the person's name will probably be released sometime Wednesday.
The body is being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery where an autopsy will be performed.
Police are calling this a "death investigation" since a cause of death has not been determined.
At this point, the Selma Police Department says it does not suspect foul play.
