SELMA, AL (WSFA)- The Selma Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that ended with two people dead, according to Police Chief William Riley.
Chief Riley says the shooting happened at an apartment on North Broad Street after a man in his 70s was approached by two suspects. The chief says one of the suspects, wearing a mask, pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the man.
The victim pulled out his own gun and shot one of the suspects in the head. One of the suspects fired a shot and hit the victim in the abdomen.
Chief Riley says the victim and suspect were transported to a local hospital in critical condition but were both pronounced dead by 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The second suspect ran from the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
No names have been released at this time.
