2nd Annual Jazz on the Grazz Event - June 21 - Phoenix Park

The 2nd Annual Jazz on the Grazz event will take place on June 21 at Phoenix Park in Downtown Selma from 12 pm - 10 pm. 

This is a family affair, so be prepared for good food, fun and friends!  

The vendors will have crafts, jewelry, plants  - cold treats, icy drinks, grilled meats, veggie lover sides, deli sandwiches and a whole lot more!  The deadline to apply to become  a vendor is June 17th at 4:00 pm. Email the council office at councilsecretary@selma-al.gov to request an application or stop by city hall. 

New this year, is the following timeline:

12 pm - 10 pm: Music all day
                         Vendors all day

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Star Trek into Darkness is rated PG-13.

Showtimes are Friday, June 7 at 5:00 & 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at 3:00 ($5.50 matinee), 5:30 & 8:00 p.m. Sunday,   June 9 at, 4:00 p.m.

Belk stores celebrate 125 years in business - Selma celebrates with great customer service

Belk stores all over the southeast recently celebrated 125 years in business. On Wednesday in Selma over 100 gift cards were given out to customers lucky enough to get one. The customers were asked to get in line at 9 a.m. before the store opened and they were handed out. People could win anywhere from $5 to $1,000! Special sales inside the store also were going on to celebrate the stores years in business for its birthday celebration.

Sales counter manager  for Estee Lauder, Candace Mott, was given her 2nd customer service award for her winning smile and friendly attitude  along  with knowledge of products  and for helping customers with special needs and honoring their requests for assistance.

 The award was given by the VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE ORGANIZATION of Selma.

V.I.P. is a non -profit organization dedicated to making Alabama more accessible for the visually impaired.

Montgomery, Ala. (May 28, 2013) - Belk stores in more than 300 locations across 16 southern states will celebrate the company’s 125th anniversary on May 29, the date that William Henry Belk opened his first store in Monroe, N.C.  Customers are invited to attend celebratory events being planned in each store that will include special decorations, entertainment and refreshments, as well as sales promotions. The first 100 customers arriving at each store on May 29 will receive a Belk gift card.

 

“Our 125th anniversary is an opportunity for us to say a big thank you to everyone who has made Belk successful over the past 125 years,” said Tim Belk, chairman and CEO, Belk, Inc.  “Thank you to our associates, our customers, our communities and our vendor partners.  We look forward to the next 125 years with pride, excitement and anticipation as the best is yet to come.”

Air Force Maj. Gen. Walter D. Givhan talks value of education with TROY grads

 

MONTGOMERY—U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Walter D. Givhan, a Troy University alumnus, told TROY graduates that education will help them deal with new challenges and demanding situations as they move forward with their careers.

Givhan delivered the keynote address to graduates during spring commencement for the Montgomery Campus on Monday, May 20, inside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Some 140 students took part in the 7 p.m. ceremony.

In all, 192 students earned undergraduate and graduate degrees this spring at the Montgomery Campus.
