American Red Cross partners with Carter Drugs in Selma to host blood drive.  The two have partnered for the last 5 years and each time it has been successful. They hosted the blood drive on Friday.

According to Red  Cross officials there is a shortage of blood in the Black Belt. During the holidays and summer there is always a shortage. They need all types of blood. It is safe to give blood and all blood is screened for diseases before it  is used.

Visually Impaired People Organization thanks the City of Selma for sponsoring the Youth to Work Program. The program gives Selma's youth a job for 8 weeks. Young people are placed at City Hall.  The city-operated facilities and non-profit organizations to give them extra help for the summer so they can do extra work in the community.

With funds being low to have extra help this year, receiving a young person with good communications skills and a good work ethic came in handy for V.I.P.  We have been able to get out and do a lot more work in the community with our outreach programs.

Alabama 4-H invites you to "make a difference" in the lives of 200+ youth participating in the upcoming 2012 show.  4-H needs help with some critical tasks -- everything from arena gatekeeping, to setting up jumps.  Thanks to the efforts of many good people last summer, the 2011 4-H State show was accomplished smoothly and safely -- and we're looking forward to another great year!
