AUM Women's Basketball participates in Make a Difference Day

On the weekend before the start of the regular season, the Auburn Montgomery women’s basketball team celebrated Make a Difference day by reading to local children.

It is the 16th straight year that the program has volunteered for the national event, which took place on Saturday, October 27. Head Coach Dan Davis went with half of the team to the Heritage View Apartments, while assistant Haley McIntyre Rosa took the rest of the Warhawks to the Molina Learning Center. Rosa has now experienced the event as a player and coach at AUM.

“It’s always such a great event to go out and be able to give back to the community,” Rosa said. “Our young ladies can be great representatives for these kids, who may not have good role models in their lives.”

An estimated 35 children attended the two events. Dr.

Edgewood Elementary students treated to day at Bowman Farms

Edgewood Elementary students treated to day at Bowman Farms

Yulanda Mason's Kindergarten class at Edgewood  Elementary School in Selma stopped by our farm for  muscadine's this week. The kids were treated to an educational opportunity on how growing different kinds of fruit is an agricultural business, the history of our farm, and how we set up the crops and why.

The kids were given the opportunity to pick muscadines and learn about the history of the muscadine grape and how to raise them.

Some of the kids took a ride on a four-wheel-mule and they had a great time doing so.

We were blessed with 58 kids from Edgewood Elementary and all left smiling and happy with their muscadines.

Thanks Ms. Yulanda Mason and your class and fellow teachers for coming to see us this week. Y'all come back next year.

Field trips are still welcome this fall. To schedule one call me at 334-875-1244.

Civil rights legend to reunite with man in iconic Bloody Sunday photo

Civil rights legend to reunite with man in iconic Bloody Sunday photo

SELMA, AL (WSFA) - It's been 47 years since the Bloody Sunday March from Selma to Montgomery that tipped a balance in the American Civil Rights Movement. For years Amelia Boynton-Robinson couldn't identify the man seen holding her lifeless body in an iconic photograph of the event. Later this month, the two will reunite for the first time since that fateful day.

Known as the Matriarch of the Voting Rights Movement, 101-year-old Amelia Boynton-Robinson has been asked for nearly a half century about the man seen holding her limp body after coming to her aid at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

"I've always wished I could give a better answer when they ask, 'Who was he? Who is he?'" said Boynton.
